To stimulate the students to immerse themselves in the course content, and see how it applies to everyday situations at work and home, they are required to compose and solve an orignal homework assignment themselves. The specific requirements are presented in the pdf. In previous years students have created assignments about cooking, murders, the non-Newtonian flow of a glacier down a valley, the rheology of ketchup, and the sinking of the Titanic.  Some of these problems have ended as, or contributed to, exams in subsequent years.
