2.4.7 Optional Bonus Videos
Course subject(s)
Module 2. Materials and Manufacturing Methods
This section of the course is completely optional and is not part of the course curriculum. Below you will find links to several external YouTube videos showing in detail some of the polymer and composite manufacturing processes Jos has talked about this week.
We hope they will illustrate the principles discussed further. Most of them are videos from manufacturers selling machines or fellow colleagues in academia. By including the links to these videos in the course, we are in no way endorsing the products advertised. If you have suggestions for additions that are also free to be distributed under a Creative Commons License, do drop us a line on the discussion board!
- Extrusion: this first video shows how plastic chord is made starting from pellets, the second video is an animation explaining the general process.
- Pultrusion: this video is similar to the extrusion video but now shows you how pultrusion works starting with glass fibres.
- Filament winding: this is a short demo video of filament winding of a vessel.
- Autoclave: this video shows an animation of the autoclave process.

- RTM: A clear example of how RTM can be used.
- Resin/Vacuum infusion: The making of a boat using vacuum infusion.
- Ultrasonic welding: From our very own lab, a demonstration on ultrasonic welding.
