We have already seen the concept of stiffening sheet material by adding stiffeners to it. But that involves many parts and the added complication of attaching all the parts together. In this section we look at another option to stiffen shells: monocoque shells. This involves designing a sheet material that withstands all the load and has sufficient stiffness and is made as a single piece. Gillian will explain more in the next video lecture.
