Course week(s) 5. Stability of Conservative Systems and Euler Equations

After a recapitulation of the previous module, the stability analysis is continued. In this module, the stability of conservative systems is discussed by making use of the applied forces and potential energy. Thereafter, the stability of Lagrangian systems is discussed. It is told that the same procedure as for conservative systems needs to be followed.

After all these stability analysis, the dynamics of rotating bodies are discussed. Newton’s second law is revisited and the concept of angular momentum is discussed. From these follow Euler’s equations of motion. Corresponding to this topic, a course handout is given below.

One sample problem is given in the module and can be found in the exercises of this module.
