The effect of imperfections on the structural response of a beam is explained in this lecture. It is shown how imperfections are modelled, and how they are incorporated into the equilibrium and stability equations of a beam. It is then explained how the resulting inhomogeneous differential equations are solved, and how the solution can be interpreted.
