Rayleigh Quotient

Course week(s) Week 5
Course subject(s) Beams

An approximate energy method is explained in this lecture, called the Rayleigh quotient. This is a quick way of calculating buckling loads of structures such as beams, plates and shells. An example for beams is given in this lecture. A more refined method for beams, called the Timoshenko method, which is based on the Rayleigh method, is explained in this lecture as well.
