Composite manufacturing methods can be divided up into four main categories, each with a number of suitable manufacturing processes:

  • Short fibers, thermoset: Hardly used in aerospace
  • Continuous fibers, thermoset: Filament winding, tape-laying, hand lay up and pultrusion
  • Short fibers, thermoplast: RTM,Vacuum infusion and VARTM
  • Continuous fibers, thermoplast: Press forming
