4.2.1 Introduction to Load Paths

When loads are introduced into the structure, they have to go somewhere. They have to be dissipated into the structure. In this section the concept of a load path will be explained using buildings as an example. See for instance the roof of a World War II aircraft hangar at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, United Kingdom and how its loads are dissipated through the arches and columns.
