Fittings and pressurized structures

In this final subject prof. C. Kassapoglou covers various methods of connecting structures to another, as well as an example of a composite panel under a distributed load.

The lecture begins with a description of different connection methods and their uses. The first of these methods to be discussed in detail is tension clips, followed by shear clips, a similar method used for shear loading transfer. Next lugs are discussed, and their various modes of loading and failure.

An example is then given of a composite panel under a distributed pressure load, which is solved by using the linear solution from Fourier series. This solution is then compared with a more detailed handbook solution provided by ESDU. Finally he concludes the lecture series by covering rules of thumb for when you are designing with composites.
