This lecture continues the discussion of ways to combine solutions for unsteady heat conduction. Next discussion turns to ways to deal with complex problems involving multiple simultaneous heat-transfer processes: specifically, how to identify which process is the most important one, and the qualitative effect of those processes left out of the analysis. The macroscopic energy balance is described and its similarities and differences from the shell energy balance discussed.
