This lecture discusses the last step in the data-acquisition chain of a measurement system: analog-to-digital conversion. The basic principles of sampling and quantization in analog-to-digital conversion are discussed, as well as three important types of analog-to-digital converters (ADCs): flash ADCs, dual-slope ADCs, and successive approximation ADCs. Finally, the implementation of a sample-and-hold circuit and the associated error sources are discussed.
