Discrete Structure with Stable Postcritical Behaviour

Course week(s) Week 2
Course subject(s) Discrete Structures

This is an applied example which clarifies the theory explained in section 2.1 of this chapter. The most common example is used, which is a vertical rigid bar which is connected to a hinge using a spring. The way equilibrium is establised is explained, as well a stability and the stability of critical points.

The other video shows the effect of imperfections on the equilibrium and stability of the considered structure. It also shows that bifurcation points can change into limit points in case of the presence of imperfections.
