That is why there is a great need for engineers who are able to combine their technical knowledge with insight into the social consequences of technology. The programme Technische Bestuurskunde has been developed from this question. In the first place you will be trained as an engineer. You learn mathematical modeling, so you can estimate the effects of technological innovations. You also get courses such as economics, law and organization & management. This is a very strong combination at a time when almost all major issues are technological in nature, but can not be solved with technology alone.

Het opwekken van duurzame energie, de introductie van zelfrijdende auto’s, het beschermen van je online privacy of het verantwoord ontwikkelen van artificial intelligence … technologie heeft grote impact op alles en iedereen. Daarom is er grote behoefte aan ingenieurs die hun technische kennis weten te combineren met inzicht in de maatschappelijke gevolgen van technologie. Technische Bestuurskunde is een studie die is ontstaan uit deze vraag. In de eerste plaats word je bij ons opgeleid tot ingenieur. Je leert wiskundig modelleren, zodat je de effecten van technologische innovaties kunt inschatten. Daarnaast krijg je vakken zoals economie, recht en organisatie & management. Dit is een ijzersterke combinatie in een tijd waarin vrijwel alle grote vraagstukken technologisch van aard zijn, maar niet kunnen worden opgelost met technologie alleen.
